Greater control of permissions on objects - We use the PMO portal and unless the Project Managers are the creator of the objects such as Change Requests, Decisions, Assumptions, Issues they don't have edit rights.
It's possible to setup a sample object and assign the projects, but for shared objects such as Risks it's a little bit more awkward.
An option for cascading permissions would be useful, were you could set the permissions at a top level (i.e. the Project record) and then any related object that impacts on that (i.e. a sub object) would inherit the permissions as well.
That way a PM would have author rights or edit rights on all objects that were linked to the Project, it would be useful in other areas. Would be useful if this was configurable so you could decide as part of the relationship what permissions if any were inherited.
